Miyakojima Day 2

Put up your guesses on how long I slept.

Incidentally even today’s reading seem to assert that if I don’t relax I’m gonna eat shit. Well, more specifically it’s saying to pay attention to the hardly-fought balance with work and how I’m gonna eat shit if I refuse to see that I’m past the “hardest part”.

Time’s up. EIGHTEEN HOURS.

Okay so it wasn’t 18 straight hours, but almost.

I slept 5 hours from roughly 9PM to roughly 2AM. I needed water and ANYTHING in my stomach so I hit the hotel’s vending machines for stuff and then went back to sleep.

And slept.

And slept.

And next thing I knew it was like 3PM and I was struggling to drag my ass out of bed.

I wasn’t hungry so I figured I’d explore the area, so I took Aurora with me and took a walk. It was then that I noticed my camera lenses fog something fierce.

I’m used to eyeglasses being the ones that do that…

Anyway, I started walking left after leaving the hotel and eventually I found a Hole.

And like… if a hole presents to you like that it’d be rude to not explore it and I’m nothing if not a GNC Gentleman.

The area had a lot of sharp volcanic rock. Super nice and scenic just had to be careful, it’d be a shame to step on any of these rocks.

The vantage points were super handy, but something wasn’t clicking with Aurora, I’m trying poses but this doesn’t feel like her.

Then my thinking gets clouded by one of my sandals slipping and stepping on sharp rocks… in my defense, I did not plan to be near sharp rocks when I left the hotel.

But the show must go on so In power through the pain and the photos are good but they still feel… wrong in some way, or rather, not wrong but not RIGHT…

I figure hey the place is quiet and lonely, let’s take a pic without her top on and…

That face…

THAT FACE! THAT’S THE AURORA I HAD IN MY HEART!!

Lots to think about but for now I decided to return to the hotel and put on some shoes because I had the sort of annoying cut that needs support.

I figured I should try to take some more photos before the sun goes fully down so I took Asagi with me and came back to The Hole.

Now, I HAD taken Asagi oput once before so I didn’¿t have that discovery period right now. I did, however, have a moment where the Stabilization dial of the lenses was off making a couple of photos unnecessarily blurry.

One shower to take off the gallons of sweat later and I’m out again, this time not to take photos with the girls but to find something to eat.

There’s plenty of restaurants in the area, though a cpouple were closed. Being a Resort Zone means there’s the slightly annoying bit of the businesses not working from like 1PM to 5PM and the expectation being, in fact, that you’re gonna be far away.

I start checking the options. Closed, closed, full, one only had reservations from 8PM (it was 6PM) and another just didn’t have ingredients for the day and were done.

You know what? Fuck them all. If nobody else got me, I know Funky Flamingo got me.

One detail I forgot to mention is that they do this thing where they ask you if you’¿re staying on any of the nearby hotels and give you a card to show when you¿’re buying things.

Now with a lot less weight in my back and a lot more weight on my stomach I figured I should head out to explore since the heat is way less right now.

That… didn’t last too long.

The problem isn’t me feeling unsafe by other people but unsafe on where the fuck I’m stepping. I kept feeling like I was gonna trip on something.

So I gave up and decided to return. On the darker spots of the road on the way back the sky started to have more stars though…

The problem is that the hotels nearby, while not polluting too much, are spaced just enough that it’s sliiiiightly tricky to find a good dark spot, though as I mentioned, I was also being cautious with walking so I’m sure I could’ve found a nice stargazing spot if that wasn’t a concern.

At times like this I’m reminded of my hometown, how the sky always had more stars on the regular than I see here in Japan on average… especially during one of the many many blackouts.

Yeah, I don’t think the stars are worth every device you care about dying because the power supply is so irregular.

Back at the hotel, I spent most of the night going through all the video backlog that I have, I even remembered to post one of the many many drafts I have on queue.

It makes me think that I tend to only have enough time to stop during these short monthly vacations…

Eventualy I decided to go to bed more because there was no food around than because I was particularly tired.
