Misty Heartbreak is a banger tho

Today’s deck is the Verdance Tarot.

Deck about all things nature, the presentation is kinda nuts, though. It’s one of those that includes a comprehensive book in case it’s your first time using tarot, but it even includes a neat single-card stand.

Today’s reading is advising that I should relearn to depend on others.

I’ve had a certain up and down in that front. From feeling like I couldn’t/shouldn’t, to being able to, to back to not doing it. To be fair the last one was as much by necessity as by tripping on progress made, but still.

I think I brought it up when I talked about the drunk person that entered my house after I returned from one of my trips, but there’s usually two layers to entering this building if you don’t have a key.

There’s the first outer door which leads to a lobby, and from there there’s a second door that goes to the apartments area.

At least I assume that’s on every floor? It might just be on the first floor since it’s more transited and whatnot. Couldn’t tell you, I’ve never gone beyond the first floor.

That’s why I wasn’t THAT scared with the trespassing back then, because to enter (let alone exit and flee) you need a key so I assumed it was a guy literally drunk blind confusing one floor for the next one.

I bring it up to illustrate that whenever my doorbell (as opposed to the outer intercom) rings, I tend to be confused and pay more attention since it’s usually things like the gas guy coming to check the smoke detectors and such.

Today the bell woke me up but instead of it being the guy that comes check the pipes are not clogged or something like that, it was actually one of the 7th floor neighbors. Apparently the HOA went on a bus tour and they brought me some senbei as souvenir which was really nice of them.

It’s the second time this has happened, actually. Last time I got some cookies.

It reminded me that last year I wanted to print a bunch of postcards and just leave them by my AC. My place is right by the door which means it’s a high transit zone so I kinda wanna check how many people would look at them on a “take one free” box and actually pick them.

Also because if I put them inside the mailbox it might be mixed up with the usual trash mail.

You know, I AM technically part of the HOA, I even get their meeting minutes whenever they happen. I should try to go to one of the meetings sometime. As much so they put a face to my name as to see if they can put a new tree on the front of my place.

By the time I moved in the tree in front of the apartment had dried out so there’s that fraction less of privacy on my balcony as a result.

…can I get a Sakura tree, I wonder…

Americans will wince at their mention, but “HOA” just means stuff like “the bike racks are creaking, we’re gonna use this much from the building’s fund to oil it, meeting adjourned”. How abrasive they are with regards to the units is up to each individual owner rather than the organization as a whole.

Anyway, the very roundabout point is that I was now out of bed whether I wanted to or not. I purchased some things and then just killed some time while it became late.

I was gonna move some containers to the storage unit and it’s easier to maneuver that when there’s no cars on the road.

And thank God I did because in the second trip I almost tipped over the cart with all the containers towering in it trying to get it into the sidewalk.

Through it all I’ve been randomly thinking about King of the Jungle Tar-chan today.

So like… picture this: Shonen Jump comedy about Tarzan (or a legally distinct Tarzan at least) where he’s a henpecked husband to a Super Deformed Jane. Then they turn THIS into a battle manga, tournament and all.

And also this is one of its endings.

It feels like I’m making shit up, like I’m trying to make fun of how Shonen Jump turns everything into a battle manga. But it’s real. Like a Kochikame bit where they parody the magazine they’re published in.

…was that in Kochikame? It went on for so long it might’ve been. The anime had a bit making jokes about Dating Sims after all.

It’s like Kamen Rider Kabuto. I’ve seen Kamen Rider Kabuto and my brain still refuses to accept that show is a real thing.

In both cases it’s not even like the product is bad, it’s just such a specific combination of elements that makes one go “that’s not real, come on”.

You know, I made the comment offhand, but I wonder how many volumes Kochikame ha-

…oh right, longest running manga and all that…

Speaking of influential, I was playing DQ3 and I got a cursed ring that changes your personality to “wimp” which made me think about the fact that DQ3 had the whole thing where a party member’s personality determines the stat growth and how that’s basically Pokemon’s natures also. Fittingly in the 3rd Generation also.

Playing Dragon Quest having played Pokemon really makes you appreciate things, especially with that one story Tajiri told (I think it was in GameCenter CX?) about how you can trade pokemon because he was playing DQ2 and wanted to get a Mad Cap (a rare drop) and his friend had TWO but they couldn’t trade items.

It also makes me think about how, in a broader, grossly generalized sense (kinda like when I say “why are dudes like this”), the Pokemon fanbase is the kind that doesn’t really care about that.

There’s a specific irony and tragedy to works that are clearly made by geeks putting in very overt references and the works make it to the sort of mainstream where the audience ISN’T geek enough to notice and assume everyone else is copying their thing instead.

Allergic as I am to Mihoyo games, I distinctly remember noticing a LOT of references and then said references never being acknowledged in what little I saw before I started blocking any Genshin Discourse that so much as looked my way a few years ago.

No news on the DQ3 progression by the way, I just got it into my head to get past the vampire cats that killed me last time so I’ve been grinding.

Am I going anywhere with that trian of thought? Not really, I’m fighting sleep to fix my sleep schedule while randomly jotting down stuff.

My sleep schedule is in that annoying zone right now where the day was basically half Monday half Sunday. Here’s hoping I can flip it around this week, though.
