The 2026 plan is to try the 2025 plan again

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Today’s reading is different from the usuals.

As an ongoing exercise, I decided to draw a card for each month and keep track of how the prediction plays out. I’m keeping them each in a journal so we’ll see how it goes.

This month’s card is the reverse Eight of Cups. If I had to take a guess as to what it means here, it’s probably indicating that I’ll spend most of the month getting over all the time I feel I lost to Bank Stuff last year.

We’ll get back to this when the month ends to look back at it with new perspective.

New year goals! Girlfriend.

Can’t wait to see who will be the new irreplaceable Girl Friend I’ll have by the end of the year.

That’s only a half joke, though. Last year revealed to me not only the depths of how much I wish that companionship, but the specific snags I have to fix to approach the matter healthily.

I actually had this idea yesterday that helps explain my ACTUAL goals, though.

I was walking through the nearby park and I saw a small branch that would look neat to carve. Woodcarving (getting back into it, rather) has been in my mind lately and it ocurred to me “wouldn’t it be cool to just take time out and carve something with a random fallen branch before moving on?”, an excuse to walk by nearby parks and leave an unexplained branch gnome… though more importantly, a chance to Stop.

This kinda sets up the two main goals I have in mind: Setting time for myself and indulging in more creative things.

I mentioned yesterday I wanted to grab the habit of drawing, for example, that’s one. Though the rest is honestly more in line with getting my life back in pace, being able to go to my singing lessons, having time to do stuff with plastic kits… it’s been over half a year since I was last able to indulge in Warhammer-related stuff.

You know, I guess that’s actually the crux of it. In 2025 I tried to get in the pace of a bunch of things and failed, now 2026 is when I try to finally act on it all.

Short term I definitely wanna dedicate January to sorting my apartment, though. I was making strides in sorting things before life happened again, and like the rest of the goals I want to retake that for myself.

Back to my day specifically, I took my sweet time sorting things into my luggage. According to Google Maps the place I’m staying at is only hour and a half away so I can take a more leisurely pace with it all.

Luggage felt… oddly heavy when I got out. I assumed I was just rusty but by the time I made it to the station my wrist hurt a bit indicating that no, factually, it was heavier than usual.

Something something foreshasowing, something something let’s keep going and see what happens.

Train route was easy. Hankyu station to Rokko Station and… this place looks kinda familiar? Kinda sorta, but it’s after dark so not sure yet.

From there it’s a single bus to a cablecar station and ok I’ve been here before but I can’t pinpoint where or when.

Cablecar was super nice, you get to see the city as you go up, but only if you’re at the front. It’s not like the roof of the vehicle is clear or something.

I make it to the top and oh would you look at that it’s the consequences of my actions. There’s no wheelchair support so I have to lift my really heavy luugage and oh look at that we’re in a fucking mountain meaning the air is thinner!

Against all odds I make it up and thankfully the hotel is close by and fuck me I gotta keep lifting the damn thing.

The check in was an automated sort of thing, I go to the cabin and it’s dark and cold. I make my way to the hammock in the room and recover my breath.

After coughing my bad choices awayfor a couple of minutes, I finally find the room switches and… snazzy glamping sort of place turns out.

It’s also still so cold…

Ah well, they gave me a ton of bedsheets, I’ll just indulge in those.
