Brain Latency

Today I used the Old School tarot.

The school that is old in question is animation, it has that very broadly generic Disney/Fleischer-esque style and whatnot.

There’s a couple of odd things about this deck though.

The first is that it promotes itself with being waterproof and stuff but the card stock isn’t particularly fancy, waterproof Uno this ain’t.

The other one is that the deck was sorted by number. What do I mean? I mean that you have The Magician, then the 2 of Wands, then the 2 of Cups and so forth and THEN the High Priestess.

An extra oddity, is that you’d think Aces would be set right before The Magician, but no.

Also the box credits Artwork and Artist as separate things?

Today’s reading speak of conflict through indecision and unbalance and as I said yesterday I’m off my meds for a couple of days, today’s reading is a no duh.

I woke up after dark (to be fair we’re near winter so that means “anytime after 5PM”) and the aforementioned meds are such a part of my routine that not having any to reach out to and grab first thing in the day had me like “Oh…”.

This all reminded me of one time in… I believe it was February 2021 where I spent a whole month unmedicated. This was both in a really stressful period of my life AND a period where I didn’t know how to deal with stress the way I do now.

It wasn’t an easy period in any way, and I think the same thing back then as I do now: “Damn bitch, we lived like this for 27 years?”.

That February story in particular has a funny aftermath because when I finally got my meds and I was sorting things in my apartment to get back into the proper rhythm of things I found a month’s worth of pills under a pile of clothes.

Tragic in the moment, hilarious to this day.

I played a couple of DLsite games and of note is this one called 異世界樹の巫女~魔法のチカラでおさわりHやりたい放題~ which is a 3D game about fondling a girl and using spells like stopping time in the process. But I bring it up because it starts with this Tokimemo parody screen and that sure took me by surprise.

I also played this one called ゲームの世界に転生したあなたはNPCを犯し尽くす!~あにめーしょん~ which is part of a genre I really like (the “have your way with all the NPCs” genre), but if I had to raise one complaint it would be that it’s too slow.

What I mean is that part of the animations can’t be skipped and the first one has this slow zoom in on one of the characters that feels like it lasts forever. And more than “the animations are bad let me skip them” (they’re not, for the record), it’s a detail that makes the game feel sluggish.

This is something that happens a lot with games where they code the whole game first and then commision the illustrations, whereas games where it happens in tandem tend to be designed like “well, I know exactly what I’m drawing so…”. But in this case according to the credits the illustrator made the game so…

There’s also the minor detail that you download like 2GB of game and it’s just because the folder contains three copies of the game in three different languages. This is less of a game developer detail, however. That’s just an RPG Maker thing.

I might love the games made in that engine but using it is like pulling teeth with your own hands. If I ever do make something I would probably do the Voices of the Void thing and use a completely different engine but make it feel like an RPG Maker game just for kicks.

There’s not much to say about today otherwise so here’s a funny story. You all have probably see the Merlion here and there, the statue of of a mermaid with a Lion’s head.

A dear friend of mine lives in Singapore and he’s SHOCKED any time he sees it being used bcause apparently the Merlion is copyrighted.
