Today’s deck is the Tarot Neocolonial de las Americas.
Latin America’s relationship with the aboriginal people is honestly very interesting. While there’s obvious variations on the matter, the foundational myth of the region is one of “the indigenous people, the slaves, and the mixed race people pushing away the Spanish”, so when it comes to history it’s normal for some groups to avoid the whole colonialism thing by claiming the country’s origin lies in its first nations.
I have no authority on the matter since I’m 1/4 Spanish at least (only grandpa confirmed, the rest of the usual genetic blender sort of thing) but that post for the aboriginal stuff always felt… Disingenuous. I would love nothing more than for those cultures to be more prominent and respected, but as-is it tends to be pure lip service.
That’s a bunch of words in a very VERY sensitive matter to say I like this one. It’s about that post-colonial stage of things in imagery. As much nature and aboriginal imagery as it is virgin Mary and cultural imports.
Today’s reading talks about how learning new skills is a surefire route to success but one that requires patience.
I’ve been thinking about new year resolutions and one of them is my eternal goal of getting back into drawing, so this reading is very prescient.
Today’s the sort of day where I wake up rushing to a 1PM appointment 10 minutes away, not realizing that it’s currently 11:50 instead of 12:30.
Less “so busy I mix things up”, more “brain is fried in general”.
I spent most of it in travel prep and I swear to God I want to spend January focused on cleaning my place because Good Riddance.
Of course the main thing today is that I managed to take the Christmas pics I wanted.
A bit rushed, not exactly what I planned (I didn’t use the Christmas tree I bought, for example), but as L put it “it looks like a cramped rushed family photo in a good way”.
My favorite bit is definitely Berry pampering Akane, especially because I didn’t remember until later how the last time I took a pic of her was also her pampering little ones.
You know, Berry is the one out of all the girls that gets me acting the funniest. And what’s funny about it is that it wasn’t on purpose. If it was on purpose she’d have tan skin or blonde hair. It’s curious how even in a situation where you have control over all the circumstances and details, the things you fall for the hardest might surprise you.
Nothing else to report though, my bed is full of STUFF I threw in there while packing up. I’m sure I’ll be fine though.
Edit: I was not fine.
