Today’s deck is the Ukiyo Romance Tarot.

I despise the use of the word “vibes”, it feels like a copout for things that can be conveyed more eloquently and effectively outside of pointing at a thing and wiggling your eyebrows like “am I right?”… but I will reluctantly admit that the vibes are very good with this one.
Today’s reading points to a desire to get out of my shell but a fear of not setting up proper boundaries which… yeah, that’s always there in a corner of my mind, but I don’t much see why bring it up today…

All my usual stress-related ear issues had been under control until now. But I got to the stage where I wake up with my left ear slightly inflammated, and if there’s one sensation I hate is my ears feeling blocked.
After a quick meal I made a second attempt at the wrinkled potatoes recipe, this one came closer but I still ran into the problem of the potatoes peeling off from the shaking. A secondary issue was that the condensation dampened the salt and stuff afterwards which had me like “oh so that’s why the recipe talks about covering the pot with a towel…”.
Progress is progress, though.
Speaking of progress, I was moving boxes and I came across a bluray I got ages ago of Speed Racer. My dad loves Speed Racer so I was telling him about the wordplay in the title.
For those that don’t know, the title in Japan is マッハGo!Go!Go! where マッハ is the japanese word for Mach so the pun is that you have Go (五, Five) Go (号, Number) and Go (行く, Go), the title is basically “Go! Mach 5!” or as I joked last year (and I remember this because I was killing time waiting for my plan to Miyakojima) “Maha Number 5”.
Another part of it is that Speed’s name in Japanese in Go Mifune, which gives double meaning to his outfit having a G and an M. I forgot what his last name was when I was typing the message to my dad though, I googled things up and fell on a minor rabbit hole.

You see, supposedly (and I can’t remember where specifically I read this tidbit in the blur of pages) Speed Racer was based on an Astro Boy character called Koichi, or Tommy Speed. I couldn’t find a source for the claim of the similarity but I did find that the chapter does indeed exist.

I was chatting with N about this since she’s researched a lot into Osamu Tezuka works, and we talked about how probable it was due to the proximity of the airing of the episode Vs Speed Racer’s initial airing… then I noticed that the gap between the manga chapter and the anime chapter was only like 4 months and at that pace of production in a more lawless era it’s not impossible… still can’t find the source for the claim, but I wasn’t too inclined to hound on that specific point today.
Still though, fun stuff.

I dropped by the office today, but I was mostly there to pick up a couple of things. Day was on the whole very laid back.
