Ise 2026 Day 2

Where’s that rainbow parrot gif when you need it…

As is often the case when I’m calm my brain loves to dig up the smallest faux passes from the past and rub them on my face. Today’s reading is warning me about my tendency of letting that sort of thing get out of hadn.

At least I’m medicated now…

Predictably, I woke up kinda late. So the first thing I did was fight the nagging voice in my head urging me to MOVE and DO SOMETHING.

It’s all within the plan, though. First day to settle in, second day to explore, third day for something more specific, fourth day to buy souvenirs, and fifth day is the return.

Speaking of which, when I arrived I saw a Yamato Transport truck take luggage, I wonder if I can mail my stuff back home and travel lighter…

First thing after getting all set that I did was a quick conbini run because while I packed on snacks, I forgot to buy anything resembling a meal.

On the way I remembered that I saw a Tsunami Shelter. Basically a tall structure where one is supposed to go up in case the sea gets particularly angry… it also looked like an interesting photo spot, so I go and…

It’s… predictably blocked. But get this: The sign says that during an emergency you should BREAK THROUGH IT AND CLIMB THE STAIRS.

YES, YOU MUST KOOL-AID MAN YOUR WAY THROUGH DRY WALL WHEN POSEIDON WANTS YOU ASS, IT’S AMAZING.

I returned to the villa afterwards and I wanted to take some pics I had in mind near the beach with Akane and Akari, they’re wearing these miko-like swimsuits so I figured the beach looking towards Meoto Iwa would be a cool spot. So I go out to check it aaaaaaaaand it’s blocked.

For context: it’s technically a straght line from here to Meoto Iwa, but this copnstruction means that the straight line is now snaking paths through other streets. This also means whatever I had in mind must also shift accordingly.

Well, I’m nothing if not adaptable to my own detriment, so changing plans I took Mikan with me and headed back out with the intent to explore.

Aaaaaaaand I found out the best spot was near the Seven Eleven I just went to. I’m happy abouit the photos mind you, but it also means I could’ve either go back to my accomodation AGAIN to walk around a bit lighter OR keep going.

We keep going.

I picked an arbitrary Lawson that was like 2 or so km away. Well… it’s not really arbitrary. I picked Lawson because there’s a couple of online bills I can only get solved there before the month ends and also this one had an AEON Mall nearby so I could get some food.

In the end the most important thing was a goal. Set up a weird goal and then just walk there through Google Maps’ “yeah that’s efficient on paper I guess” routes.

Something super interesting I immediately noticed was that the general area had so many bits and pieces of shells. Like, the area IS known for their pearls, it’s a Whole Thing, but I gotta wonder how the shells end up in random places and then pulverized by what I assume are cars and people walking.

The answer is probably “the birds” though.

After the first bridge I saw a weird snaking route and I was like “please please tell me this takes me where I’m going…”.

It did.

I had the dumbest smile on my face.

I filmed it, that’ll go up whenever I remember to check the memory on the DJI.

The next xhunk of the path was through a residential area and it’s slightly weird for me nowadays to see this sort of area with zero big buildings in the distance… I’d say it reminds me of my hometown, but it’d need to be directly in the foot of a mountain.

What it reminded me of was actually Boku no Natsuyasumi………….. well, more specifically the porn parodies that continue its legacy, but some of the original too.

I can see someone that has family in the countryside and is taken there. Perhaps during the vacation they have mixed feelings but then look back as an adult wanting to be able to enjoy the time had back then properly…

…or maybe they didn’t. I actually thought what it might be like based on the vibes alone and I’d be lying if I said the idea doesn’t sound enticing. Boku no Natsuyasumi but through the lenses of someone that kinda grew up in the boonies of a different country, feeling The Vibes that this specific kind of countryside conveys.

Food for thought.

Anyway, then it becomes like 8PM which means it’s now night proper and HOLY SHIT THE MOON IS SO BIG TODAY.

Not the bioggest moon I’ve ever seen (that one still goes to that one fateful night in Miyakojima) but fuck me it was great.

There’s an oil painting of a sunset that I made as a teen that my mom compares to that moon. She claims I have some sort of clairevoyance because I also drew a really fluffy cat for an assignment in college and gifted it to my uncle and aunt and then years later they got a cat that looked like it.

Anyway, through the fire and the flames we made it.

I went to the food court and tried to get a seat at a chinese food restaurant… no luck. They had a bunch of seats but nobody was coming in to check the list outside of people waiting for seats.

Well, no problem. There was a place right across from it that sold eel… aaaand they ran out of meals for the day. This long before Last Order mind you.

The temptation to get McDonald’s as a backup was growing but I decided to try out Zetteria for the first time. It’s a chain, it’s a common chain even, but I guess Mos Burger has left me a bit wary of the Japanese burger chains.

It was good, though! It was a Garlic Shrimp Burger, which means simple burger with a huge shrimp coated in garlic on it.

Then my drink toppled over, but I’d finished my burger so I packed my fries, apologized to the cashier, and went back.

First attempt at getting a cab… no luck.

I try the app again after moving a little bit and immediately got a hit, but had to wait like 10 minutes… considering the walk back would be an hour, I’ll take that.

The weather was nice today, though. So I decided to try the smart telescope again. I also left my recorder in a corner to catch the random animal noises in the area.

Speaking of random noises in the area, there’s a sound of like a motor that only happens at night. It actually freaked me out a little bit on my first night because it only happened when I crossed a certain area so for a moment I even thought it was like… a boar or something?

Still no clue what that is.

Anyway, the pics are… not the best, but I later realized that that’s because I tried to take them in an area with still too much light around. You can actually see the spots where the compositing either ran on the edge of the building after tracking the stars or just the general beams of light.

The moon one is a banger, though. But well, It’s all part of the learning process. Like realizing the battery will not survive a full session and I should attach a battery pack or something next time.

I didn’t check the audio recording yet, but surely there’s gotta be something interesting in those 40 minutes of ambient audio…
