Not me getting skillgated by putting my name in a form

Today’s deck is the Ari Tarot Deck.

Apparently the author is from Thailand and the deck is basically based on their daughter which is a cute detail.

Today’s reading talks of resolution of some indecision that leads to more productivity flowing, which feels oddly familiar to today’s first point.

The good news is that I finally managed to get my debit card application through. The bad news is that, as I expected, it was infuriatingly dumb why I couldn’t get it.

When I made the application it tells me to put in my name, but the total name field cannot be longer than 10 characters, so they’re all “if it’s longer than 10 use furigana”, which I assumed to mean “write it phonetically to make it shorter”.

Being a westerner, having two names and two last names means it’s super hard to sum up my name like that, and it dawned on me that the error I kept getting that rejected my application was because my name looked different than in their registry, but how the fuck do I do that with the character limit?

Then it dawned on me.

The name field has a 10 character limit… but the furigana (phonetic guide) field doesn’t. THAT’S what it meant…

Let’s say your name is Charles Entertainment Cheese Junior. You made an account registered with that name, but it’s too long so you just put in Charles Cheese, or rather ちゃーるず ちーず because it only takes kanji or hiragana. Notice also how you’re already at 8 characters with that.

Anyway, if you did that, you’d get the same error as me… but turns out you can write the full チャールズ エンターテインメント チーズ ジュニア in the furigana field and suddenly it works!

I’ll try to focus on the fact that I’ll finally have a debit card in this country ’cause if I think about why I couldn’t earlier I’ll be too mad.

And besides, I have better reasons to be mad.

For one they’re making more strict requirements for business visas that, while they don’t affect me, mean the moves I pulled to make it into the country back in 2018 would be basically impossible and that’s a daunting thought to have lingering in your mind.

Also, turns out there’s a shortage of Concerta (my ADHD med) meaning currently in the best case scenario I have to start scouring pharmacies in hope one of them has it.

And let me tell you, having the Get Things Done pills cut is the last thing I need right now… in fact, if things could just Stop Happening for like five minutes I’d be very grateful.

I did get a Moomin Date Stamp from Loft before I went to pick my prescription, though. So at least I came out of it all with a treat.
