Today’s deck is the Santa Muerte Tarot.

Santa Muerte has always been fascinating to me. For those that don’t know, in Catholicism (some branches of it at least) one of the main things is the belief/acceptance that the Virgin Mary has many appearances depending on the region. That’s how you get the Mercedes Virgin, Coromoto Virgin, Chiquinquira Virgin, Guadalupe Virgin, Fatima Virgine, etc.
Half-cynically speaking it’s super interesting to me as an indoctrination tactic, of “Hey you have your own cool version of the Virgin, clearly you’re meant to be Catholics!”. So the idea of a virgin that evolved independent of all that is fascinating.
Can’t say I know much more about her though. I’m not Mexican, curiosity didn’t lead me down that path before, and my dips and dives into theology haven’t aken me there specifically yet.
As for the deck… how the fuck does a skeleton get boobs…?
For today’s reading, I’ve mentioned in the past the idea of “the price of peace” AKA “paying a bit more to make sure you get annoyed less”. Today the cards feel like they’re taunting me going “yeah, careful with that shit lest you end up throwing out another full pot of soggy pasta”.

So yesterday I went “I’m gonna take a quick nap, it will be a couple of hours at most”.
I ended up sleeping about 10 or so hours. Such is life.
Since it was a nap-turned-long-sleep, I woke up with that pamphlet sticking to my back. It’s the type that they include sometimes in tarot deck as a sort of “support in Japanese” item, and when I saw it something dawned on me.
When I get decks, usually the listing says “Weighted Cards”, and I assumed it was like… some kind of printing style or whatever.
It’s Waite.
As in Rider-Waite-Smith-etc.
The auto-translator just took ウェイト as Weight because… that’s also how you spell Weight in katakana, yes.

I roughly followed the same routine as yesterday, grabbing a conbini bento and then doing groceries.
I wanted to try the caramellized onions again today, but to avoid a pasta fiasco again I switched gears to instead making Meat and Potatoes (plus carrots) since that I can do with rice and I trust my rice cooker more than I trust myself.
I did try a rice with different grain that I got ages ago tho.
I also took the time of how long it took to caramellize the onions. This batch in particular (three onions and two leeks) took AN HOUR.

At least since I knew shit took longer I was able to sit down and check things every 10 minutes or so.
In checking what else came while I was asleep, these two packages arrived.

The first one is important because I spent SO LONG not knowing how to look for that kind of vinegar, turns out it’s just “white vinegar”, which is relevant because it’s less sweet than Japan’s rice vinegar, which is important because it’s a flavor I’ve been looking for here for god knows how long, which is important because I love to make veggie salads.
And then after moving in I remember asking the people I knew about it BUT EVERYONE I KNEW WERE DUDES WHO DIDN’T COOK SO FUCK ME I GUESS.
The other is a fucking piece of my hometown. There’s very few things I miss from Venezuela, most of them are people, but dark rum, and THIS dark rum specifically is one of those.
Japan mainly serves white rum by the by, which is a very curious difference.

Since I woke up at like 1am, I spent most of the early day doing paperwork, sending salaries and all that noise.
In terms of cleaning the house two major things happened: The first was that I freed up the sofa for E to be in. Most of the bulk in it are plushies that need better placement.
The other was that I cleaned up my toilet. There’s bits and corners that need sorting but for the most part it’s been sorted out.
I swear to God I’m gonna become an air frier person but for steam cleaners. I’m already an air frier person but for dishwashers, so…

Overall I really needed these two days of just recovering. The cleaning hasn’t stopped and won’t stop anytime soon but fuck me I needed to slow down and heal back up a bit.
