Your discs will burn too

Today’s deck is the Neoteric Feminine Tarot.

I had to triple check this wasn’t a dupe. It’s not just pulling my mean joke about “for girls by girls” tarot stuff, that just kinda happens with a general theme. It’s shocking (though not unsurprising) the amount of tarot decks about Cats.

Today’s top card fell down while shuffling. The reading speaks of pessimism or a general bad feeling regarding a woman.

99% of my friends are women and they all have rough lives. I also have my own traumas/hangups with romance that I often talk about. I could’ve asked the cards for clarification but you know what? they probably only want me to have women in my mind, which is never bad.

Woke up straight to the chiropractor, actually.

The weather’s been really nice finally, which means I can wear the actual pants I like instead of being tied to the Uniqlo insulated pants. Same with jackets and letting my loyal red jacket rest.

It’s also the reason why the breakdancer that practice near Shin Osaka are slowly reappearing.

I should talk about them sometime.

As soon as I stepped out there was a sunshower, you know, sun while light rain happens.

In Japan that’s called “Kitsune no Yomeiri” or “The Fox’s Wedding”, though apparently that term applies to other phenomena like Will O’ Wisps.

…in Venezuela we say Satan and La Sayona (foul female apparition that shows up to infidel men basically) are fighting, and I’m gonna admit, the wording made it sound cool as hell when I was a kid unaware of domestic abuse.

So I head to the chiropractor office through the wedding rain and holy shit, holy fuck, I’m so stiff, no wonder I woke up in a knot yesterday.

Like, I was aware that I spent like 4 months in no mental space to go, but fucking hell. I was crackling and popping more than a bubble wrap in a rock tumbler.

After getting my bones relocated, I decided to take a small walk in Umeda. I needed to get head replacements for my electric toothbrush and the weather was nice.

I went to Yodobashi Camera and got myself a cheap DVD drive because I wanna copy a bunch of music CDs into my computer.

It’s been literally easier to get the CDs to some songs I want than trying to find them “officially”. There would be no difference if I pirated them but I wanted the CDs to have around at least.

Can’t help but be reminded of that one Gaben quote about how piracy is a sign of purchases not being convenient or whatever. I feel right at home in the sense that it reminds of getting an R4 for my DS not because I preferred piracy (in fact, I was happy getting less games but getting the originals) but because no game that I wanted ever got imported… and wouldn’t you know it, having an R4 in my Nintendo DS is one of the most formative experiences I ever had.

Yes I forgot the toothbrush heads, thank you for noticing.

So anyways, back home and I start backing up discs and the FIRST ONES IN LINE ARE THESE TWO.

I cannot stress enough how hard to find these songs can be. Like sure, not knowing what Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman is means you live a healthy life unconcerned with mid but immensely fascinating PS1 games, but Megaman X5? That just means you live a healthy life unconcerned with mid but immensely fascinating PS1 games!

Half jokes aside (I love X5 but I would never defend it from its bullshit), the weird omission of X5’s opening IS weird. If you go to Karaoke you’ll find X4, X6, X7, X8, even X3, but no X5.

It’s extra odd because not only is Showtaro Morikubo also the one singing X6’s theme, apparently the singer for X4’s theme sees her stint as an idol as something of the past she’d rather leave behind.

Speaking of X4 I also backed up the album with Makenai Ai Ga Kitto Aru on it, but it didn’t have the instrumental version so I looked up the single CD version, should arrive soon.

I love these Japanese single mini CDs, but also they’re hell to store.

Next I noticed I got the OST for Senran Kagura at some point but turns out it’s just for the DS games. That’s not bad but Shinovi Versus is unironically one of my favorite soundtracks. The fact that Shiki’s theme (whose name means Four Seasons) has elements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in it is a very specific kind of nerd intersection you don’t see often.

Next was the OST for Akiba’s Trip. BOTH Akiba’s Trip games, in fact.

Akiba’s Trip 2 is the only game I’ve ever platinum’d and I was actually introduced to the first one in college by C on the PSP so it’s a special game(s) to me.

We don’t talk about Akiba’s Beat, though.

Nobody does.

For good reasons.

After that was another one of the reasons I started doing this: The Wild Arms 5 soundtrack. I clearly remember listening to it in iTunes with their subcription thing, so it either got delisted or there’s region locking shenanigans or SOMETHING but I’m infinitely annoyed by that.

All of the Wild Arms sountracks are great, but 5 is easily my favorite. The others are great music but this one aligns with my music tastes even more than the others, basically.

One cool thing that I forgot until I picked the CDs is that they actually have the music in the order you’d hear it in the game. The first CD even opens with the title theme and closes with the opening you get after you head out into the map for the first time.

Also I apparently have dupes. I have a box set of the two CDs and a cool box and the CDs sealed. Kinda tempted to keep the spares for fun.

After that I backed up… basically a Masami Okui album that has her tracks from Cyberteam in Akihabara.

Oh hey speaking of the DS, Izuna is one of a handful of times I PESTERED my parents to get me a game off-season because I was worried that if I skipped it now I would never get it again, and guess what! I never saw it again! Not only that but it’s super expensive to get nowadays.

Turns out this was more of an… app, like a flash one. With the images and such. I think I have a physical book with all of this, but it’s still a cool novelty.

Up next…

…I’m not drunk enough to talk about Prism Nana. I need to be like… “I miss her so much, man” levels of drunk to talk about it.

As good a stopping point as any, methinks. Both for the entry and the backup effort.
