Today’s reading hit onto something a tad too personal so I’ll kep that to myself.
There’s this gay porn video called “Midsummer Night’s Wet Dream”, often shortened to “Inmu”.
As it’s been the case for a few low budget gay porn videos, it became a meme. But in the case of Inmu it’s something that transcends the usual expectations.
Like, the closest comparison would be gachimuchi but the amount gachimuchi references one can pull is kinda limited and heavily contextual. Inmu has evolved to the point where you can chat with someone entirely in quotes like it’s a Simpsons reference back and forth.
There’s TALKS about it in anthropological circles.
Anyway, I bring it up because today was Beast Day. The name derives from how the premise of the video involves going to “Beast-senpai”‘s place to a place fans have dubbed “the beast house” in Shimokitazawa in Tokyo.
It’s a tradition that’s been going on for effectively Decades by now and this year’s was particularly crowded and particularly rowdy.
There was also a general… vibe in the crowd that I couldn’t pinpoint until I saw someone mention it but… the crowd is shockingly young for such an old meme. If I reference Gachimuchi in a thing I’m not getting the TikTok crowd with that.
Not much else I can add to that conversation though, more qualified people than me have.
