Tsushima 2026 Day 2

So anyways, I fell asleep without noticing.

Continuing the theme from yesterday, today’s reading is reassuring that there’s a hope to get out of those proverbial shackles even when the whole thing leaves me exhausted.

As you might guess, I passed out after laying in bed last time…

First issue at hand: Food. Tsushima is the very definition of countryside in an island and as such it’s not like I have a Lawson at hand… in fact I check Maps and the closest conbini is about half an hour by foot.

For the time being I actually had a solution, you remember those apple pies I bought on my way out? Two of them plus a full bottle of green tea were still untouched.

Thank God also that not only and I low maintenance when it comes to food, but I don’t eat much after waking up.

My dad also looked things up and apparently the wildcat I’ve seen everywhere is an endangered specied they turned into a mascot to raise awareness.

…pretty sure I’ve seen a Kemono Friend based on it, now that I think about it.

But now I had to kill time and I actually didn’t forget my smart telescope this time so I let it take pics doing its own thing.

However, I didn’t feel like leaving it alone since it was on the hotel’s balcony so I just chilled near it, stargazing on my own.

The humidity was insane though. There was no rain and yet the surface of my backpack would look as if it was pouring water down.

Anyway, the result is this pic of a Nebula which has me shocked, and I’m sure it can look better if I pass it through composing software other than the one built into the telescope’s app.

After killing some more time I went out figuring I could explore a bit and make my way to the conbini.

This whole area is The Sticks and I mean it in the most complimentary way possible. I have a weak spot for the sort of place where abandoned buildings still hang around… might be a sick form of Nostalgia.

I make it to the conbini and I go “YOOOOOOOO” and I realize this is so In The Sticks that the conbini is a local-bred type.

It’s also gonna be closed for the weekend.

I also didn’t take pics of it, apparently.

There’s a supermarket, but that one’s gonna open in like an hour and it’s kinda hard to kill that time in this sort of heat. I was also doing the mental math of needing to return on top of it.

This is the part where I learned one of the obstacles I will face in this trip: Taxi apps don’t work. Again, The Sticks.

For now I regrouped in my room and waited for the supermarket to open… and for the sun to not be so scorching hot.

Turns out it’s a strip of sorts. There’s a drugstore, another drugstore with some groceries, a hardware store, and the supermarket.

The market had some super good-looking sushi but it won’t survive the walk back to the hotel in the sun. So instead I got bread and a bunch of non-cooking things I could make a sandwich out of.

This path back is starting to become enough of an issue that I need to consider the logistics of moving around… but I’ll leave that for when I’m not tired and my brain works.
