Many of the kernels are baby teeth

Today’s deck is the Sci-fi Tarot.

I was like “hey, this reminds me of the Pulp Tarot I got a while back that I really like”, and wouldn’t you know it? Same author. Apparently he made a horror-themed one and I MUST get it.

Today’s reading advises self-control. Not much else to it.

As you might guess from yesterday’s post I basically woke up straight to finishing that new Uma Musume post. Which I did and I finished it!

I’m really proud of the end result, it was one of those topics I’ve wanted to tackle on for forever now. The evolution of art and artists is one thing I’ve always been fascinated by, be it frowing up reading Condorito and getting one of the reproductions of one of their first volumes, or in high school when I started reading Bleach and I saw the art be so different.

It’s the sort of thing that makes art feel approachable, exciting even. We all evolve even if we think we’re in top shape when put that first thing out.

The post in question did have one very specific problem though.

I always intended to have that format with one image to one side and text on the other. I went through like 70% of the cast and finally decided to check the preview to realize the format was wrong and it looked different than in the editor.

And so I ran a few tests until I realized that WordPress has a “text and media” widget that did exactly what I needed.

Here’s a fun bit of advice: If you wanna do a thing, chances are there’s a feature for it. This is something that happens a lot in programming (especially with games) where you stress over how to simplify a calculation only to learn that the engine or the framework has a built in command for it.

There’s a certain irony in how all the nonsense with GenAI makes me see those menial tasks, reformatting most of the post and whatnot and just think “if it’s worth doing it’s worth doing well”.

it wasn’t time completely lost, though. As I went through things again to put in the new format I polished the text, highlighted things in bold and whatnot.

I don’t do that, but that’s one of those tricks I learned when I started blogging all the way back in 2011, one of those basic SEO things that is lost to time and pushing ads. Basically you can tell if I’m writing seriously or casually depending on how much care I put in text formatting.

I like text formatting, I like the visual element of it, how it helps how it reads in your head.

By the by speaking of the Uma Musume blog…

WHAT DO YOU MEAN OVER 500 HITS IN A SINGLE DAY?

I’m already shocked by the fact that I spend months on end not updating and somehow the blog keeps getting hits, in fact, it basically averages about 80 views and 50 visitors per day.

And I know the english server just released, but even then 500+ hits is WILD. If somehow you went from there to here thank you for reading.

Actually, if you’re reading this right now, thank you for reading. I always keep my expectations modest, but also I’m a writer and feeling validation that I’m decent enough at my craft that even in this form people wanna read what I’m up to feels good.

Speaking of the english release, I saw fit to also add this disclaimer to the disclaimers page.

I don’t have infinite money and if I did I’d probably spend it on books or cameras first to be honest.

I woke up at like 4AM so by 9 I was done and I thought I hit a buzzer beater because I had therapy by then. But turns out DST hit and the thing went from 9 to 9:30 just like that.

After that I decided to head out and pay some company bills and whatnot and THEN remembered I had my usual bimonthly meeting so instead I updated on all the matters via text while I waited for my number to be called up.

I decided to have MEAT afterwards as a treat. The plans for the day were already in disarray because the weather was all over the place so might as well.

There’s other matters, other stressors… but that’s for later.
