Today’s reading tells of a new perspective on things dawning on me with how I’m working and… yeah.
The Chiikawa movie is out and I was kinda curious, but then like three of my friends asked me if I had watched it so I bought tickets yesterday for today.
It’s the first time I’ve gone to the movies proper in Japan. Last time I attempted it was around 2019? That or Pre-Pandemic 2020, it was for the Kamen Rider Zero One movie because the tickets gave you an exclusive toy… the Hedgehog one I think?
The experience was intuitive, the one bit that was new to me was how you buy concessions on a touchscreen and then grab a number.
The movie was great, with the caveat that I know the sort of expectations one must set oneself for Chiikawa. If I had a single criticism, is that the movie repeats some points one too many times… HOWEVER, this criticism isn’t a fair one but a creative necessity. Chiikawa the character doesn’t speak, and while Hachiware is usually the one translating what they say, Chiikawa keeping deliberately quiet about a thing is an important plot point so repeating a flashback for the third time is the way to convey the idea without betraying that principle.
What I didn’t expect was to have emotional bursts unrelated to the movie. The reason being that one of the last things I did in Venezuela before moving out was watch Avengers: Age of Ultron with my family at a mall.
Getting small emotional bursts is to be expected, but the main thing is that I live in constant fear of not having processed that period and crumbling down.
I have for the most part, but the fear is still there.
After the movie I went to Evil. It was nice, I did my usual Cultural Exchange by explaining the concept of “Boomer Minion Memes”.
If you’re wondering why, it’s because it kinda went “Chiikawa” then “Mascot” then “Minion” then I talked about how overseas the mental image of Minions isn’t as a child-oriented thing.
I also got a reminder that I made a reservation for a trip next week so I have that to look forwards to.
